2 DRUG ABUSE AMONGST THE YOUTH Psychosocial problem among the Youth: The case Youth Drug abuse For quite a long time, crimes have been an issue that the globe has been attempting to curb. Intriguing is the fact that crime rates have been persistently increasing with time. This has been despite the efforts that societies have relentlessly been putting forward to curb the crimes. In some situation, the trends in crimes have taken the concerned groups back to in order to understand factors that account situation. The case of drug abuse among the youth is one of the issues of great concern. Of particular interest has been to understand the factors that are responsible for the escalating cases of drug abuse among the youth. This paper examines the factors underlying drug abuse among the youth There have been growing concerns about the far-reaching consequences that accompany controlled dangerous substance abuse. Indeed, the abuse of controlled dangerous drugs is to blame for social problems such as rampant crimes and has pushed authorities to look for intervention. One of the interventions has included the founding of the Drug Abuse Courts, specialty courts charged with checking the use of controlled dangerous substances. As the one way of tackling the situation, Drug Courts effectiveness has been questioned (Nichter, M. & Cartwright, 2011). The incidents of drug abuse among the youth remain high. As significant as 20 percent of the youths between 15 and 24 use illicit drugs, which include crack, cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens and salvia (Ksir & Charles, 2002). The rates in which drugs are abused be the youths remains high among the adult youths. The number of youths abusing alcohol on the regular basis has been described to well about 25 percent (Allen,
