24 Written Assignments The purpose of the three written assignments is to reflect on how various aspects of your externship experience relate to your course work at the CIA and to share these reflections in a clearly written paper. All written assignments must: Follow the instructions for topics Be 3 to 5 pages in length. Use Times New Roman, 12 point font; standard 1-inch margins; and double line spacing Use proper grammar and spelling Assignment #1 (Due Week 4): Select a topic from the list below. Assignment #2 (Due Week 12): Select an additional topic from the list below. Assignment #3 (Due Post Extern): Write a paper in which you assess the four major areas listed below. You should take notes on each area from which you will develop your paper. Remember that future extern candidates will be reading this paper. Quality of products and finished food Interpersonal skills Exposure to approaches different from the CIA's Career planning TOPICS FOR ASSIGNMENTS 1 AND 2: You may wish to do some background research on your chosen topic. However, the paper should consist entirely of your own thoughts in your own words. See the CIA Policy on Academic Honesty on page 10. Alternative Beverage Menus – If your property offers a separate beverage menu, what items does it contain? Why do you think these particular beverages were selected? Artisan Breads – Describe your exposure to artisan breads during the course of your externship.
