Childress 1 Jared Childress Amy Riddell ENC 1102 26 th March 2018 Short writing 7 Discuss Willy’s dementia as a symbol of his vulnerability and of the consequences of the corrupt values that he has embraced in his life. Willy holds a belief and thereby is enticed by an American dream of easy success and wealth. He cannot achieve it, and his son does not have hope that one day they will succeed where he has failed before. According to Willy, he refuses to accept that he is not a popular success and end up retreating into the memories where he perceives himself as a successful man. Exemplified in the memory of Biffs’ last football game where his son Biff promised to make for him a touchdown. Moreover, this runs in his mind and goes ahead telling the story to his customers. Therefore, Willy’s dementia is a symbol of his vulnerability. More so, Willy is full of contradiction right away from the start where he labeled his son Biff as “a lazy bum” then again contradicts himself and call him “a hard worker.” This kind of thinking is a symbol of
