Computer Science Principles - Homework 1 1) Writing an algorithm is similar to programming, but not exactly the same. What is an algorithm? How are algorithms related to programming? An algorithm is a set of specific rules that can be followed to get a particular output from a given input. However, these instructions are general and are not written into a specific programming language. Programming provides a computer with a set of instructions in a language that it can understand in order to perform a specific task. 2) What is the difference between hardware and software? Hardware is the physical parts that made up a computer while software is the programs that run on the computer; additionally, hardware is tangible while software is not. 3) The von Neumann model of a computer specifies the name and function for each of the labeled spaces in the diagram.
