CIVE 2004 GIS, SURVEYING & GRAPHICS Faculty of Engineering Civil & Environmental Engineering ASSIGNMENT: CLOSED-TRAVERSE CALCULATION 6 • Due the following week The instructor will indicate in the field the construction site that will be surveyed using a Total Sta-tion and a four- station closed traverse. The instrument will be first placed at point A where several points will be measured and recorded. The surveying crew then proceeded to set stations at B, C and D. Many more site details were also measured from these stations. To check on the accuracy of the survey, a measurement was taken from D back to the initial station (A) and this was labeled A’. When the surveying crew finish the first part of this assignment, the coordinates of A’ will turned out to be slightly different from their initially assumed values at the start of the survey. The differ-ence in coordinates between A and A’ is a measure of the error(s) introduced and these errors can be calculated to estimate the accuracy of the work.
