WEEK THREE ASSIGNMENT 2 1- Business capability is the articulation of the materials, capacity or expertise an organization needs in order to function or perform specific functions. A clear capability in an organization is when they adapt or change the way they operate when the market or customers needs change. Capabilities can be created by offering a new service or product that is different from the rest, or by creating a different way to manufacture. For example, FedEx can design a new capability by adding a new flight on a new lane from destination A to destination B, the existence of such lane and the ability to move freight from such point A to point B is a capability for FedEx that can put them ahead of the competitions. A lot of big companies share the same capabilities while in cases they have different capabilities that make the difference on their ability to offer or not a specific service or product. Capabilities can be measured by the impact they have on creating a real competitive advantage. In an organization where the marketing department use strategic advertisement to create brand recognition, their capability can be measured over time by analyzing how this strategic advertisement is creating the brand recognition on the market. Another example can be the shipping speed when purchasing an item on Amazon. Prime members have 2-days shipping in many items, this can be considered a capability for Amazon, the fact that because of the supply change system they have created they can deliver thousands of items anywhere in the US in 2 days. This can be measured by analyzing how this service offer creates a competitive advantage for Amazon. A model to measure capabilities is the four tests of a resource's competitive power. This will help an organization to determine if the resources and capabilities can support a competitive advantage. Another model is the SWOT analysis, where strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of an organization are determined.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
