Libby Polski Beethoven’s Musical Style Ludwig van Beethoven was a remarkable musician during his active years. Remarkable in his career was his contribution in the transition from the classical into the romantic styles. Committed to the principles of classicism but not to every one of its features and certainly not to the mood behind it ( Kerman, Joseph, Gary Tomlinson, and Vivian Kerman) . Based on his explosive contributions in music and his ability to influence new inputs, more modern artists showed a reflection of his works in their own. That is, modern artists who did not copy directly in his style strained to produce something differently, showing the influence that Beethoven had on all-round music. Frederic Chopin, Franz Schubert, and Robert Schumann are some of the more modern artists who, apart from showing strains of differences, manifest considerable similarities with the works of Ludwig van Beethoven. Franz Schubert wrote close to seven hundred songs in his lifetime and was known as the earliest and greatest master of the Lied ( Kerman, Joseph, Gary Tomlinson, and Vivian Kerman). The fact that Beethoven and Schubert lived in the same city is something worth remarking. However, apart from that considerable similarity, both musicians shared similarities in the music fraternity just as much (Adorno 193). Both composers are viewed as professional
