Ruya Adly Professor Bailey DAN 105.35 19 February 2018 Dancing: Sex and Social Dance o Ballroom dancing is a standard revolving around romance. o It was once the most popular dance in USA. o Everyone knew the steps. o Ballroom dance developed a form of two people becoming one. o American tradition requires the couple dance their first official dance alone, in front of others. Ballroom dance is the traditional dance of chose. o Each sex has a different role in Ballroom dance. o Emphasis is also on containment of energy. o Waltz was the first-time men and women danced face to face, allowing a new intimacy between the sexes. o Children can benefit from dance classes at early ages. o Polynesian children learn in school traditional dances. o These dances are not couple dances, but group dances. o Group dance reflects much of Polynesian cultural. Group activity is important in their culture. o The community at whole is the most important aspect of culture.
