Ruya Adly Professor Bailey DAN 105.35 March 18, 2018 Dance Series: Individual and Tradition The first habit of humans is to learn how to control our movements. A choreograph is one who creates, design dance. Formally dance was not about pushing boundaries. These were movements determined by kings and emperors. These dances were to reinforce the existent order. The 20 th century brought a revolution in dance lead by the choreographer. The idea of dance bringing on personal expression was revolutionary. In America, dance was not considered an art form. The dancer was considered only slightly more respectable than a prostitute or a stripper. Isadora Duncan introduced United States to a new idea: dance as art, as self-expression through movement. Duncan allowed herself free movement, loose-flowing clothing. This was a radical political statement during her time. Duncan saw dance as the art of liberation. Her dancing and her life became a symbol ofa new womanhood.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
