The ethnic forms which contributed to the early development of tap dancing are two quite different folk dances, one being African, the other being from the British Isles. 2) What were the differences between the touring minstrel shows of the 19th century and the vaudeville shows of the 20th century? Minstrel shows consisted of all male performers and followed a strict structure. All performers sat on stage waiting to perform their piece. By the 1900’s Vaudeville had replaced Minstrel shows due it’s greater appeal of more variety, being family oriented, and included females and children. 3) What were the special contributions of the following dancers: Bill "Bojangles" Robinson was a star of black musical comedies, of vaudeville, and of many notable movies. His tap and soft-shoe routines were widely copied by other dancers. However, Robinson was unmatched for ingenuity in creating new steps,
