Ruya Adly Professor Bailey DAN 105.35 5 March 2018 Chapter 3 Outline Dance is an art which is used throughout the world as a means to socialize and celebrate special occasions. Ethnologist are people who do research on and reconstruct traditional dances. This text has divided social dance into four categories: courtship dances, work dances, war dances, and communal dances. Courtship dance is a European invention which does not exist in many cultures. Courtship dances typically follow a pattern or flirtation between the sexes. Cultures which do take part in courtship dances have their own styles and practices. Work dances typically imitate the daily work of men and women, uniting groups of similar workers. Early examples of work dances would include “animal imitation dances” popular in hunting cultures. (Deer Dance of Yaqui Indians) Sea and fisherman dances would be popular around coastal areas, such as in Veracruz on the Mexican Gulf.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
