Week 5 2 Individual Programmatic Assessment: Personality Development Paper When it comes to personality everyone has their own theory or definition of how to explain it. Psychologist for years has been debating the views of personality and what it means and how personalities are formed. From a psychological view personality is defined as the qualities someone has that can describe the unique way of how someone behaves. The readings define personality as “psychological qualities that contribute to an individual’s enduring and distinct patterns of feeling, thinking and heaving” (Cervone & Pervin 2010). The patterns and qualities that a person is made of makeup a person’s personality. This information is what psychologist used to study personality. The goal of this paper is to study the influence of traits like biology, trait theory, and temperament on personality development. This paper will also attempt to answer such questions like: How does the gene-environment interaction influence personality? Is culture a factor in personality expression? What characteristics of temperament are stable over time and contribute to our adult personality? Are specific characteristics consistent over situation and over time? The biological model, Five-factor trait theory, and temperament model of personality will be explained and how they can account for variation in personal, societal and cultural factors. Vukasovic and Bratko showed that genetics have some contribution towards a person’s personality. The average effect that genetics have on one’s personality is about 40% (Vukasovic & Bratko, 2015). If genetics do influence someone’s personality then this could explain why some people take on certain traits that can be seen in their parents’ personalities both mom and dad.
