Questions: 1. Define differentiation. Why is it important for companies to differentiate themselves from their competitors? How does IKEA differentiate itself from its competition? Differentiation refers to the product or service that a business provides. When a firm implements differentiation, it provides something that is unique and valuable to buyers simply beyond offering a lower price than that of the competition (IKEA case analysis, 2018). Differentiating one’s firm is important because it gives the company a competitive advantage which, in turn stimulates the customer or client base to choose that specific firm over a firm that does not provide as unique of a product or service (Lamb, Hair, & McDaniel, 2018). IKEA uses cost and product differentiation to their advantage. They offer sustainable products while pricing the product reasonably;( e.g.,) IKEA’s NORDEN table is made from knots in wood that other companies usually dispose of (IKEA case analysis, 2018). 2. Using the SWOT analysis, identify IKEA’s competitive advantages. One major competitive advantage that IKEA possesses is their ability to leave a customer satisfied.
