Name: _____________________________ Table: ________________________ Date: March 28, 2018 (Friday) Topic: Integration of Complex Lipids and Lipoproteins (Activity 7) 1. Carefully examine Figure 2 (picture and figure legend). How does the biochemistry of lipids in the small intestine (Figure 2a) differ compared to the biochemistry of lipids in the enterocyte (Figure 2b). The biochemistry of lipids in the small intestine is characterized by catabolism (degradation) of lipids while the biochemistry of lipids in the enterocytes is characterized by the anabolism (synthesis) of lipids. 2. In regards to Figure 2b what additional enzymes would be required to synthesize triacylglycerol (TAG) assuming the monoacylglycerol (MAG) transporter was dysfunctional and could not transport MAG into the cytoplasm of enterocytes? Since MAG would not be available this molecule would have to be synthesized de novo. This would require glycerol 3-phosphate dehydrogenase or glycerol kinase to produce glycerol 3- phosphate and glycerol 3-phosphate acyltransferase (GPAT) to produce 1-acylglycerol 3-

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
