Iron Mike: The Legend 2 Iron Mike: The Legend The legend of Iron Mike sits very deep and personal for many paratroopers stationed on Fort Bragg. Fort Bragg is located in North Carolina and is known as the “Home of the Airborne” for the 82nd Airborne Division and the XVIII Airborne Corps. Fort Bragg was my first duty sta- tioned after I completed my initial training in the United States Army. When I first arrived to Fort Bragg in December of 2013 one of the first things I was told about was “Iron Mike”, Fort Bragg’s most prominent and historical symbol. The History behind Iron Mike Iron Mike is located right in the middle of the traffic circle across from Fort Bragg’s Headquarters building on Armistead St. I had the privilege of seeing this statue every morning during my morning PT (physical training) because my battalion was located just a mile down the road. I remember the first time I saw Iron Mike as I was running towards it. It was a moment I will never forget because I was so interested in what the statue was and after that I wanted to know everything about what it was like to be Airborne.
