Epidemiology is defined by the US Department of Health and Human Services (2012) as the study of the distribution and determinates of health related states or events in specific populations, and the application of this study to the control of health problems. In order to consider expansion the hospital must consider certain epidemiological factors and study the type of disease prevention program that would best suit the needs of these populations and the hospital. The first factor the hospital should consider is the age of the community it serves. Disease patterns directly correlate with age (Fos & Fine, 2005). With the highest rates illness affecting the very young and very old (Fos & Fine, 2005). By reviewing emergency room and inpatient record the hospital can determine an average age of the patients it serves. This will allow the hospital to design a program that is able to reach the largest number of individuals that utilize its services.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
