UNIT 7 ESSAY 2 In this paper we will examine the short video clip for week 7 entitled “your Computer, Your Way: Dell and the Direst Sales Model”. Dell Computers, four hours is all it takes to build, test, and ship a custom PC. In the video, NewsHour correspondent Tom Bearden investigates Dell Computers’ direct sales model and its impact on retailers and manufacturers ( Your computer, your way: Dell and the direct sales model , 2018) . I am using the video to discuss the topics of this essay. There are three topics that are to be answered in this essay. They are a comparison of Dell’s supply chain to other competitors, emerging supply chain management factors that negatively affect computer stores, and lastly what ways can market research help prevent large tech business from failing. 1. Compare Dell's supply chain and logistics innovations with the competitive responses from competitors such as the Apple Store and others. Marketing research is a good evaluation tool that can be of great use in comparative studies. You can track your company's progress as well as the growth of your competitors, by keeping an eye on your competitors (outsource2india, 2018). You can devise business strategies that would keep you ahead of your business competitors (outsource2india, 2018). The type of strategy that Dell offer to its customers is the Direct to Customer Sales strategy. This takes out the middle man and allows Dell to customize computers like a made to order for each customer. The industry is dominated by few global players like HP, IBM, Apple and Dell, with a large number of local manufacturers (Sinha, 2003). The firms have created a differentiation in their offerings in terms of differentiated product offering or service provision. Price is one dimension for competition for many computer manufacturers. Others have also chosen to compete on product quality, innovation, customizability and durability (Sinha, 2003). Retail is becoming
