The third century has often been described as a time of crisis for the Roman empire. Describe some of the factors that contributed to creating an environment of crisis in the period 235-285. According to the lecture, the crisis of the third century was caused by both external and internal factors. On one hand, the internal factors are related to instability of the politics caused by those emperors and endemic civil war. On the other hand, the external factors are related to the changes of nature of Roman enemies outside of the empire. ( Unit Six Video) Firstly, in 161, during Rome return from Parthia was in the east, the Roman army brought back a plague causing a huge decrease in population of manpower. Also, there is some fiscal crisis by the internal conflicts inside the Rome are the key of leading to the crisis since the unstable core was always being easily broken.
