Taryn Neals GSC 355 Professor Haksever Five Ps For Strategy Henry Mintzberg breaks strategy down into five different concepts because he states that there is not just simply one definition for this word. He begins by saying that Strategy is a “Plan.” By this, he is saying it is a pre-meditated and thought out strategic process. It’s an arrangement of ideas that are formulated in a way that high level management can carry out the strategy with little to no “on the spot” thinking. Planning is used in the military when they must decide on which tactics work best for them and what advantages they can use against their opponents. Depending upon the situation, a strategy can be loose in terms or it can be clearly defined. Mintzberg then goes on to describe strategy as a “Pattern.” This is a term that is usually not associated with strategy and can sometimes go unnoticed. It usually occurs after a plan is put
