Unit Description : Students will learn how people develop a political identity and what factors influence their ideology. Students will examine the political culture of America while gaining an understanding of the specifics of the construction of political ideologies. Students will examine multiple factors that help to shape individual political identities. In order to ascertain the reasons why people think or vote the way they do, students will analyze statistical data such as polling. Students will be exposed to different types of charts, graphs, and other ways of organizing information. This data will help students to make sense of the different cleavages in public opinion and the tenuous nature of gathering information by pollsters and politicians. Students should walk away from this unit with an understanding of how difficult it can be to accurately respond to a fickle and diverse
