Phil 230 1 January 2016 Reflection I have decided to write about Epicureanism, more specifically on how Epicurus viewed death. I found it very interesting on how he viewed death in a unique way. Epicurus viewed death as nothing to be concerned about at all, like it did not mean anything nor does it affect anything. Epicurus sees death as neither good nor bad, death is just nothing. Epicurus finds the fear of death as unreasonable to say the least. To him death is nothing to fear and that recognition that death is neither good nor bad eliminates suffering caused by desire for immortality. He also explains how death itself is not bad since death is the absence of experience which means you cannot experience anything good or bad. Also, when people said that the soul can be punished after death like going to hell he said that it is not a concern because the soul is fragile to survive outside the body and even if it did by some chance the soul cannot experience any physical because there is no body.
