Date: September 6, 2017 Class: COMM5003 Business Writing & Communication In today’s class we learnt that Effective Communication is a significant skill which the people around the world should learn along with Collaboration, Creativity & Critical Thinking. Communication is the sharing of thoughts, ideas and emotions. Sometimes, lack of listening skills and use of technology hinders effective communication. Considering communication in businesses, it helps businesses grow, facilitate innovation, builds teams, ensure teamwork. Ineffective communication will create a chaos and individual objectives will not be achieved. As an effect, businesses will not achieve their enterprise objectives. It is the responsibility of businesses to practice effective communication outside the organization too. Correct, timely and orderly communication should be exercised to media, stakeholders, customers, competitors and any other party who will directly or indirectly be influenced by the content of communication. Poorly designed communication channels will hamper the growth of a business. The world has a new order to itself because of Technology. Therefore, it becomes essential that technology should be properly channelized when it comes to communication. Correct use of the technology medium for communication, correct word usage, e-mail etiquette, voice mail messages should all be a part of this consideration. Date: September 13, 2017 Class: COMM5003 Business Writing & Communication Today’s class taught us that communication is simply not just passing on information but conveying a meaningful and action oriented idea or a thought. However, there are various barriers to effective communication such as physical barriers, language, geographical, cultural, semantic, organizational and psychological barriers. One needs to observe and eradicate the barriers for the content to be understood by the other person. There is no one single rule for communication. We have to plan the communication keeping our audiences in our mind. One has to maneuver the communication “constantly” to best suit them. One of the tools to study how the human brain processes a piece of information and what type of information it is seeking is HBDI (Hermann Brain Dominance Syndrome ). Not just the words that you speak but the facial expressions, body language, tone of voice, attitude – all of them are communicating. E-mail is a widely used form of communication. One should observe the basis e-mail etiquette such as being professional, considering the words chosen, adding a subject and many more. An effective contribution to meetings and teams is very important. Always prepare, focus on body language, contribute your thoughts, take notes etc. Relationship building is powerful. Connecting to people will always welcome opportunities.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
