Nayha Kairam October 1, 2017 Dear Mom and Dad, This week in my human perception class we learned about Gestalt’s principles. There are many Gestalt principles some of the ones that I like are continuation, figure ground, and similarity. I put picture on the next page of this letter so you can see what I am talking about. I notice these principles every time I see a commercial/advertisement. It is interesting how I never knew what the terms were for such illusions. I would always notice that an image had two different illusions. Gestalt’s principle of continuation is one of the pictures I wanted to show you. According to the book, “Sensation and Perception” by Goldstein and Brockmole (2017), “the principle of good continuation is when connected results in a straight or smooth curving lines are belonging together and to flow in a smooth path.” In the image, we can see there are black and white lines that curve in a smooth path. We see the lines together instead of separate. The lines end up connecting towards the back of the image.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
