Case Name: Metcalf v. Texarkana School District. 986 S.W. 2d 893 (Ark. App. 1999) Summation of Facts: Garry Metcalf was a schoolteacher, head basketball coach, and part-time assistant football coach in the Texarkana School District. Even though his teaching responsibilities stayed the same, the superintendent reassigned him to coach girl’s track by a mailed letter. John Warren, who also works for the school systems, acts as the 9 th grade head football, basketball, and baseball coach. Warren’s reassignment consisted of assistant football and assistant track coach. According to the Teacher Fair Dismissal Act, under law in Arkansas the same job is not guaranteed each year, but the employee must be notified of any changes to their current job description and be granted an opportunity to be heard by the school board. The hearing by the school board, invoked upon by the two men, resulted in a confirmation of the reassignments. The purpose of appeal was that the two men argued that their reassignments
