Welter 1 of 2 Daniel Welter DFP-101 25 January 2015 Jeff Wood Mise-en-scene Analytical Essay In the movie, Man of Steel, there are a couple of scenes that display emotional contrast. This movie shows a lot of emotional contrast from trying to find ones purpose to protecting a species that is not even ones own. A scene that shows hope in the movie is when Superman is trying to fight the world engine to prevent the destruction of the earth, however it is very difficult for him to get anywhere close to the machine. At first, the scene appears to be hopeless because it looks as though superman has no chance against the world engine. However, the scene shows hope because when it shows that he's down, his hand in the scene shows that this scene is one if the most hopeful of the scenes in the movie. The mis-en-scene elements that really stand out is the lighting and the movie. The lighting is directed all toward Superman shining down at him from the top of the world engine.
