Helen Liu 215244445 Group Leader Discussion: February 9th 2017 For my group leader week, I asked each person whether they would define themselves as environmental optimists or pessimists and why they held such a position. I was interested in whether they shared similar views as the Hawken reading on the relationship between the economy and the environment. Hawken had illustrated many points as to why the current structure of the economy was hurting the environment and how it wasn’t feasible for society to continue in such a way. However, Hawken believed that the economy and the environment were able to coexist with each other should the economic world be willing to implement policies that would allow a working relationship between the two. As for our own views, surprisingly all four of us in the group held the environmental pessimist views. We all agreed that currently there is a greater emphasis on the health of the natural world more than ever before. However, even with great technological advances and the
