UNIT 3 H 2 AEIO propositions and Square of opp. of prop DR. DEO TRADITIONAL LOGIC/ ARISTOTELEAN LOGIC. Proposition is the verbal expression of a judgement. Every proposition either affirms or denies the predicate of the subject. Subject and Predicate are the terms of the proposition. A proposition either expresses agreement or disagreement between the two terms. The affirmation or denial is expressed by the copula. Following are the four types of propositions that express relation between classes. The relation between the subject and the predicate is about inclusion or exclusion. A - Universal Positive. -- All men are mortal. E- Universal negative --- No men are mortal. I -Particular Positive ---- Some men are mortal. O- Particular negative --- Some men are not mortal SQUARE OF OPPOSITION OF PROPOSITIONS. Relation between propositions: A to E --- Contrary A to I – Sub Altern A to O—Contradiction E to O—Sub Altern E to I— Contradiction.
