Constructing a Thesis Statement A thesis is usually one sentence that occurs at the end of the introduction. Its purpose is to clearly and concisely provide a summary of the main point or claim that will be argued throughout the paper. The thesis statement is developed, supported, and explained in the course of the paper by means of examples and evidence. In a history paper this means your sources.
