Sociology Lecture 6 : Sherif Experiment Norm —- Shared Idea condition Positive or negative sanctions (norm) Perception in Psychology: Norm in Sociology Ambiguous Situation ( Dark room no light only little point of light, the light will move, varies by individual ) Perception of Movement Varies by individuals Placed in a group setting and called the answer out loud (social interaction) A Situation of mutual influence —- negotiated order ( results come out as mean ) Individuals come back alone then asked how much does it move ( Do they go back to their original perception or the standard that the group ?) They used the group standard [shared perception of reality] Norm of the Group Membership Group - Reference Group (Alone) outside direct pressure Reality Function (alone) vs Pressure Function Set the Based on the Norm Emergent of Sociology Crowd situation are frequently ambiguous Bystander apathy- - Emergency ???? (When you don’t know how to act follow what others were doing).
