Discussion 2 Notes: PN Junction and PSpice 1) PN Junction: Thermal Equilibrium -Thermal Equilibrium = absence of any stimulus (no voltage or light source) - Draw on Board pn junction under open circuit conditions a) The Diffusion Current Id: Because the concentration of holes is high in the p region and low in the n region, holes diffuse across the junction from the p side to the n side; similarly electrons diffuse across the junction from the n side to the p side => Id (from p side to n side) b) The Depletion Region - Recombination of holes/electrons with majority carriers ° disappearance of majority holes/electrons => uncovered charge. This creates a carrier depletion region. - The charges on both sides of the depletion region cause an electric field to be established across the region = barrier that has to be overcome for holes to diffuse into the n region and electrons to diffuse in the p region. c) The Drift Current Is and Equilibrium: - Due to minority carrier drift => thermally generated holes in n type (elect. in p type) get

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
