I used Neuman’s systems theory quite extensively in both my posts and writings. I tend to prefer this theory due to its adaptability to situations and disciplines as it is not only a theory but also used as a conceptual model. I have studied this theory in the past and have been able to use it quite often in my practice as a psychiatric nurse but can also be applied to other health issues and will be able to be applied to my practice as a nurse practitioner. Neuman’s systems theory looks at the client as a system that is dynamically interacting with other systems in the environment. There is an emphasis on identifying stressors and reducing stressors to maintain health. As Bachman, Danuser and Morin (2015) point out; one reason for utilizing Neuman’s theory is the focus on preventative interventions as the main focus.
