1. Introduction. Music is an important aspect of every culture in the world. For many years, researchers have poured efforts into finding out how music affects people, especially children in their various phases of development. Although the exact way as to how our brain works still eludes us, the way external stimuli affect the cerebral cortex had been documented (Pantev et al 2003). This finding had shed light to the significance of music on the development of human. While music is by no mean a miracle capable of increases verbal, emotional, and spatial intelligence, improves concentration and memory, enhances right brain creative process, and strengthen intuitive thinking just by listening to it as was believed in the past, evidences have been found proving music has beneficial effects to our development, including non-verbal reasoning and phonetic awareness (Schlaug et al 2005). Studies indicate that with musical training, children will develop aural skills for spoken sounds and words faster than children who do not (Gromko 2005). Other findings point to another benefit of music that is better verbal memory span for people who receive musical training, which is immensely helpful to people of all age, not just exclusively to children (Franklin et al 2008). Researches had shown that surgeons can perform surgery – related tasks better and more efficiently when listening to music (Anderson 2000). And music’s benefits, including those regarding information processing are best shown when one had been exposed to them since childhood (Schlaug et al 1995). Thus, this paper, with the purpose of helping children to be better developed, seeks to inform parents and guardians of various ways music can be advantageous to children in their various stages of development and how music can be used so that children can reap the most benefit from it. 2. Discussion of findings. 2.1. On Linguistic Development.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
