Matthew Marino AML 2580-01 Jason Dubow May 23, 2015 Essay #8: Leave Your Humanity at the Door Movies are a form of entertainment that helps us escape our daily lives, but they also help us to better understand history and all the effects of it on society. This is what movies made after the Vietnam War. Movies such as The Deer Hunter , and Full Metal Jacket help us understand the effects the war had on the soldiers that fought in it. While each one of these movies have different messages they all contain a few similar ideas. One of these, that I have noticed, is the dehumanization of soldiers. Both of these films depicts this concept in a different way, but altogether they grasp it in a way that helps viewers understand the difficulties of the war. This idea of dehumanization in soldiers due to the Vietnam War is shown in The Deer Hunter by the separation from society that the three main characters experience. The movie is broken into three parts, the first being Stevens wedding and the hunting trip.
