The character Arnold Friend is also a suggestive name that hints at “Arch Fiend”, he is an ambiguous figure who maybe a demon or human, fantasy or reality. To me in the story and the film, Arnold’s behavior is very creepy on the way he observes Connie or even speaks to her. What is known about him is that; he stuffs his boots so that he looks taller, he seems to be around thirty or in other words old enough to be your father, but he tries to look like a teenager. He admits to stalking Connie and finding out all kinds of details about her from her so-called friends. The way he speaks is in a flirty banter by later on threatening Connie’s family with bodily harm. I see him as a representation of death or evil incarnate that is posing as an ordinary man. The relationship between Friend and Oscar is awkward. Basically, Ellie Oscar is almost in a trancelike state while listening to the radio play. It is an imagery of being sucked into the music or also known as sucked into sin. Arnold goes on about how unimportant Ellie is by making him more of a
