Elgin Scalzi EDU 225 Author of the Week - Tomie DePaola Tomie Depaola is a children’s literature author. This man has accomplished a feat that nary a common author could achieve: he has written and/or illustrated over 260 books. This alone is already incredulous, but he has earned many awards, including the Smithson Medal from the Smithsonian Institution, the Kerlan Award from the University of Minnesota, the Regina Medal from the Catholic Library Association, and the Sarah Josepha Hale Award, a prestigious distinction in writing by a New Englander. A third fact about him that I thought was cool was that he lives in a VERY old, 200 year old barn. This man is a very prestigious man with many published books. One book is The Song of Francis .
