Macbeth By: William Shakespeare (AP Questions) Act I, scene i: 1. Through the use of stormy weather, Shakespeare creates an ominous environment in which three witches are discussing the battle which had occurred. 2. The line suggests that all things that are fair can also have a bad side to them, just the opposite is true. To give an example, we can look to Macbeth who was a stellar general yet turns out to kill the king. 3. The poetic device being used is chiasmus, this is implemented to give a spell like effect to the play. Considering this scene is comprised of witches, it only makes logical sense to make it seem like the whole scene is a spell cast on a character. Act I, scene ii: 1. The purpose of this scene is to portray Duncan as a kind individual who has contributed no harm to Macbeth to make him later seem as a cold blooded killer. 2. Macbeth is described as having incredible endurance and at the time a warrior who could win battles with honor were very cherished. 3. Macbeth’s relationship to King Duncan is that he is his kinsman and his subject. 4. Macbeth and Banquo had been fighting Macdonwald.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
