CNPS 427 Assignment 2 1. Identify two specific situations (e.g., different types of clients, different client issues/reasons for counselling) in which group counselling may be more effective than individual counselling. One of the specific situations where group counselling is more effective than individual counselling is when an individual is facing a problem that is common amongst others. Examples of such problems can be alcoholism, gambling or obesity. Group therapy is more effective for these individuals because by having shared traits, they can provide reinforcement to each other through empathy. This also allows individuals to open up to their problems easier as they have the comfort of knowing that they share a common struggle. By empowering each other through similar experiences, it makes people feel less alone and be more open to change. Also, from group interactions, people can learn new perspectives in dealing with their problems from others’ success stories. Another situation where group counselling is more effective than individual counselling is in relationship therapy. For example, in one-on- one counselling, it is easy for a single individual to give exaggerated, distorted, or inaccurate accounts of their experiences, since their partner is not present during the therapy session. However, in group couples counselling, the therapist can see relationship difficulties be enacted live.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
