Little 1 Danielle Little Professor Comstock College Writing Seminar Apriln14, 2017 Theory Explication For major essay three I decided to analyze the belief that the earth is flat and not round. When considering which of the several theories we discussed in class I decided to make my descion by considered the different tones that each theory could add to the paper. When thinking about Mokyr’s theory of progress I realized I wasn’t planning to talk about how the flat earth believers see their ideas as moving mankind forward in some direction. Next I examined Goulds theory of Darwinian fundamentalism, but came to the conclusion that I would not be discussing natural selection and the ‘fit-ness’ of some individuals. Then I examined Journets theory of metaphor in science, however, I also wouldn’t be talking about the scientific rhetoric in the flat earth belief. Finally, I began to consider Rice’s theory of bullshit. This theory deals with how conversation is a give and take process that requires ideas flowing. Her idea behind bullshit is
