Question 2: A theory is a proposed explanation whose status is still conjectural. A scientific theory is a structure of ideas that interpret and explain scientific facts using a mechanism. The Hardy-Weinburg (HW) model is used to help explain microevolutionary theory for example, Mendel’s first law segregation and second law of assortment of gametes. The HW model is used to track the genes in a population, in ideal conditions, through time of reproductively mature adults and compare gene pools to see if evolution has occurred. The model essentially works by relaxing one or more assumptions and then investigating the implications. When using HW, you assume a single autosomal locus with two alleles and no mutation, random mating, and no natural selection (use example). HW can also be used for two loci (locus 1 A&a locus 2 B&b), the assumptions are the same except for now there is recombination which increases variability of gametes. Going from a one locus to a two locus system is evolution has occurred. In the absence of these evolutionary forces (mutation, natural selection, genetic drift) the population would reach an equilibrium in one generation and maintain that equilibrium over successive generations. By describing specific ideal conditions under which a population would not evolve,

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
