Fayth K. Stephenson Essay [1] Prof Cooney 31 January 2018 The United States Economy The United States economy can be best evaluated through inflation, unemployment, and gross domestic product rates. Because the consumer determines the economy, the administration has to implement strategies in order to stimulate the economy of the United States. Our nation's current economy is currently within a recovery and seems to steadily improving. Per The New York Times latest issue on tuesday, January 30, 2018, our economy is analyzed through the economic indicators: economic growth, consumer price index, retail sales, unemployment, and housing starts.Economic growth is down 4% between the third and fourth quarters of 2017. The third quarter stood at +3.2% and the fourth quarter stood at +2.6%, but is ultimately a decline compared to the growth of 2014 which was close to +6% during its second and third quarters. From December 2017, the consumer price index stood at +2.1% and at +2.2% in November 2017. The index saw a massive dip during 2015 and steadily rose during 2016. Retail sales were down to +5.4% in December 2017 compared to +6.0% in November 2017. SImilar to the consumer price index, retail sales had a steady dip in 2015 and rose again throughout 2016. Unemployment stands at 4.1% as reported during November and December of 2017. The unemployment rate has seen quite a magical drop during the past five years, where it
