ECE 220L02 February 13, 2015 Experiment #4 Bipolar Junction Transistor Current-Voltage Characteristics Executive Summary: The bipolar junction transistor is an active device utilized in applications ranging from the simple use as a switch to uses in amplifying a current signal. The base current determines whether the transistor is either in cut-off, active or saturation mode. This base current is essentially amplified by its relation to the collector current dictated by the beta of the transistor. Consequently, a bipolar junction transistor can be characterized as a current-controlled current source. Objective: The objective of this experiment is to observe, measure and then analyze the current and voltage characteristics that the bipolar junction transistor exhibit in various circuit configurations.
