ECE 220L02 March 01, 2015 Experiment #6 MOSFET Transistor Current-Voltage Characteristics Executive Summary: The Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) is a ubiquitous active electronic component with utilizations in a multitude of applications. One notable use is in the digital devices extensively integrated in our society. The two types of MOSFETS are n-channel and p-channel, with n-channel being the most common. Each type has two modes of operation respectively which are depletion-mode and enhancement mode. Observing the fundamental physical structure of a MOSFET, it can be seen that the oxide layer between the gate and the transistor acts as an insulator. Ideally, this effectively prevents any current flowing from the gate and therefore can be characterized as a voltage-controlled device. The operation of the MOSFET is largely dictated by the value of the gate-to-source voltage relative to the threshold voltage.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
