Dahyun Chae EDU291 Dr. Burris Journal Article As a teacher we cannot assume all children will be able to discuss literature or they successfully understand literature without teacher’s supporting. There are many different ways to give chances to children to have opportunities for discussion. Picture story books are an excellent genre to expose children to literature. Reading a lot of children’s picture books allow students to develop relationships and improving language skills. Group picture books also develop students to interact common theme or other relationship such as genre, author, or illustrator. Also story quilt and book talk are good ways to expose children to know titles then they understand the elements of literature and they can create stories. Picture story books are really good device to introduce elements of literature because they have beautiful illustrations and short length high quality stories. If you read many books to your students they are provided a foundation for understanding elements of literature.
