Reading 2 – The end of history? - Article takes place in 1989 - Karl Marx was the best known propagator of the end of history, claiming that history is on a natural path to a communist utopia, resolving all issues in life - Hegel’s view was that contradictions drive history on the level of ideas, not the trivial election year proposals of American politicians o Ideas that unify world views that would be understood under the rubric of ideology - Hegel believed that the material world and the ideal world could never meet - Hegel believed all human behaviour in the material world is rooted in a prior state of consciousness
