STUDENT HOUSING AT HARRISBURG UNIVERSITY Aniruddha Badbade [email protected] Abstract In April 2017, all students living in on-campus housing at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (HU) were invited to respond to a web-based satisfaction survey to identify areas of strength in residential life. A total of 2,520 (72%) of the students responded. This report explores the options provided by Housing at HU, presents the results from the student satisfaction survey, and makes recommendations to improve satisfaction levels.

1. Introduction Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (HU) is a privately-owned university located in downtown Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. With a total of about 3500 students enrolled in the University [1] , it currently offers two on campus housing options – Residences on Market, and Market View Place. This report presents the history of housing at Harrisburg University, followed by the status of housing including description of types of units, construction details, fixtures and amenities, square footage, and costs. It is followed by the results of a satisfaction survey that was directly sent to students in the HU database. Housing options at different regional universities are also analyzed to exercise the recommendation for the present study – Temple University was chosen as a comparison for the purpose of this report. After surveying the current housing options at HU and comparing with other regional universities housing options, this study recommends including a monthly meal plan for the undergraduate on- campus students and increasing availability of parking for the current and future planned housing apartments in the Market St. area.
