LO: Briefly describe the organization of the gustatory system, including its anatomical components and synaptic connections. Taste buds are in structures called papillae. Each taste bud has about 100 taste cells. Taste receptors are on the taste cells. Taste cells extend microvilli into taste pores which then detect tastants in the saliva/ At the basal end of the taste cell it contacts the gustatory sensory neurons to transmit stimulus to the brain.
