SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES 2 What is a consequence of sex freedom in emerging adults and adolescents? Introduction A consequence of sex freedom in emerging adults and adolescents are sexually transmitted infections (STIs). There is a risk because the overall incidence of STIs is highest among emerging adults. There is no question that emerging adults and adolescents are out there exploring the world and learning about what is out in the world. Its amazing to learn and experience but what’s better than doing it safely. Half of all new cases worldwide occur in people younger than 26. (Satterwhite et al., 2013, Gewirtzman et al., 2011, pg. 475). Sex freedom is a fun thing to most and may not be to others, but we need to be informed about what comes with that freedom. In this paper I will be informing emerging adults and adolescents about consequences that involve sex freedom and ways to avoid them.

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES 3 Sexually transmitted disease affects people of all ages, but they take a heavier toll on young people. CDC estimates that individuals ages 15-25 make up over one quarter of the sexually active population. 20 million new sexually transmitted infections occur in the United States every year. 12.7 percent of young adults on their parent’s health plan did not seek out reproductive and sexual health care because they were afraid that their parents would find out.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
