Crime Rates 2 Crime Rates I do not agree with the notion that crime rates in the United States are rising. In my opinion, crime is a less of a concern to many Americans compared to other matters such as economy and unemployment. Sanburn (2016) points out that this perception that crime rate is on the increase is brought about by two main issues. First, political conversations have tended to focus on crime whenever there is an election. For instance, Democrats tends to argue for the reforms to criminal justice system, while in 2016, President Trump made crimes committed by illegals immigrants the focus of his campaign (Sanburn, 2016). On the other hand, high profile shootings have tended to hog the media attention, helping to foment the perception that people are not safe and that crime is on the increase. Yet, these incidents are few and far in between. In fact, Dugan (2013) is of the view that an increasing number of Americans report that they feel safer in their neighborhoods.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
