Stages of Growth 2 The most difficult stage of growth for a business has to be the start up stage. This is the first stage when the business is introduced in the market. During the startup stage, there are a number of challenges that if not handled well, may lead to a business collapsing. For once, this stage consumes a lot of resources, yet the returns are low. In fact, at this stage, it is rare to find business that are able to break even [Tha11]. This means that the cash outflows, might be higher than the inflows. Managing cash reserves is perhaps the most difficult tasks a business will have to deal with during this stage. If it fails in this task, then the business may not be able to honor its obligations to creditors and may soon find itself having to close down.
