Preemptive Strikes 2 Preemptive Strikes Discussion The concept of preemptive military strikes is an important one, because it helps in eliminating danger before harm can be done to the innocent people. By taking out people who cannot be arrested, and yet they pose serious threat to the innocent civilians, a preemptive strike is something that should be supported so as to protect lives and guarantee safety. Preemptive strikes is also controversial. In my opinion, there are a number of issues that have to be considered. First, there has to be robust intelligence reports linking the target to intentions to commit heinous crimes. Culpability has to be built on solid ground, such as making of nuclear weapons, committing massacres and among other heinous crimes. Secondly, preemptive strikes should be the only option of stopping the target. This may be due to the fact that they are in a jurisdiction that cannot bring them to justice, or arresting them is simply impossible due to prevailing situation such as war (Kellner, 2015). It must be justifiable to use this tactic. Preemptive strikes should not be used to take out people whose only crime is to disagree with the state or some other power. I think other nations have the same rights to launch preemptive strikes against enemies that are threatening their welfare and that of their citizens. Preemptive strikes should not be a purview of the United States. However, some nations have bad human rights records, such as
